Sensors and Bioanalytics
Business segment

opTricon develops and produces sensors and systems for bioanalytics with the objective of measuring and evaluating biological and chemical processes and changes by means of optics. Chemists and biologists observe and research chemical processes in the laboratory that are stimulated by light, or during the course of which light or fluorescence is induced. The characterization of the emitted light (wavelength, polarization) provides essential information about the course of the process or the state of the cells involved.

Because the previously available measurement devices for reproducible analysis were stationary, they could be used only in the laboratory. In order to take bioengineering measurements on site, mobile handheld measurement devices are needed.

Components of an innovative handheld for bioanalytics:
- Choice of the optimum wavelength and intensity
..(optical power) for the stimulus light source
- Local focusing of the light

Our Approach:
1. Development of a proposed solution according to the
....customer specifications for a compact device for mobile
....application
2. opTricon tests the solution through simulation
3. Development of optics, electronics, circuit technology
4. Software programming
5. Construction of a prototype
6. Joint evaluation and testing
7. Construction of a small batch
8. opTricon organizes and assumes series production
....for the customer
Examples of Typical Developments
>
Devices for fluorescence detection by means of CCD elements
>
fibre-linked systems that use a fibre to conduct and detect excitation and detection wavelengths bidirectionally, to and from the test object
>
electric system evaluation through digital measurement of the phase shift between excitation and detection wavelength
